My debut young adult fantasy novel, A Light Unseen, is a story of survival, empowerment, and familial bonds. Set in the distant past, a young hog farmer must navigate the dangers of a deadly jungle and a corrupt city in order to protect what's left of his family. It’s Reign of Shadows meets Beasts of Prey with the charm of Princess Mononoke.
A powerful stone city thrives within the depths of a perilous jungle. Deadly creatures roam the shadows of the wild, and no one but the couriers dare venture outside the city’s outer wall. Sixteen-year-old Dásko is a hog farmer living on the isolated fields between the city and the jungle. Faced with poverty and societal disdain, Dásko struggles to prove his worth so he can become a courier and travel through the jungle like his father.
Yet when tragedy strikes his humble farm, Dásko discovers far worse dangers than the fearsome beasts of the wild. Many secrets and treachery await him within the stone city. Dásko must navigate a world of danger and deceit to protect what’s left of his family. His fight for survival leads him into the deepest corners of the jungle, where he discovers secrets that could expose the ugly truth behind the city’s stone walls.

Many hours have been spent perfecting this tale with adventure, mystery, and just a hint of magic. In many ways, the main character, Dásko, represents a little of what’s in each of us. He begins the story as a young person searching for where he belongs in the world. His journey is filled with moments of beauty amidst the danger and turmoil that exist within and around him.
